Categories

Drawing from our experience in the first year, curating film categories is a crucial aspect of film festivals that adds excitement to the event. Well-crafted categories are what captivate and engage the audience. In this year’s edition, we are introducing new categories, removing some, and enhancing others. We believe that by doing so, we will continue to sustain and attract a larger audience. The categories for this year’s Sauti Zetu Film Festival will include:

Wazawa/The Natives (Local Films Category)

The aim of this category remains to feature films by Tanzanian filmmakers. This category is designed to support the development of the Tanzanian film industry, providing local filmmakers with opportunities to engage with international filmmakers and learn strategies to enhance their work and advocate for human rights.

The Community Baraza

The focus of this category will continue to be on selecting films that spark discussions on civic space and freedom of expression as essential human rights. We will prioritise films that highlight the impactful role of young individuals in amplifying their voices and bringing positive change to their communities.

Ajenda Yetu

One lesson we have learned is that filmmakers tackling topics like equality, whether in economic opportunities or climate justice, encounter numerous obstacles in their journey. By persisting in featuring such films in our lineup, we aim to not only ignite discussions on equality but also to inspire and acknowledge filmmakers who have dedicated their talents, skills, and resources to addressing the challenges that hinder women and marginalised communities from realising their full potential.
